A Flurry of Activity

January was a big month for Mousie and me. First, we kicked off 2019 with an explosive celebration and website launch, and set up our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Then, there was the so-called ‘snow bear’s belly button mystery’... which Mousie has been curiously cryptic about.

This month has also been a bit hectic, as Mousie recently invited some mice friends over for her annual Puppy Bowl party. Knowing how squeaky and frenetic they get during such gatherings—especially when observing cute animals—I set them up with the Animal Planet Puppy Bowl, and hunkered down in my office with my designated “Bear” snack plate (seed spreads and organic party platters just don’t do it for a bear, so Mousie usually assembles something more delicious, and robust, for me to enjoy in the quiet of my office).

I got this shot of the mice when I went upstairs to refill my snack plate. I think the pups were into the third quarter.

Earlier this week, while I photo documented the crafting of “THE 2019 PIGGIE!”, Mousie spoke in foreign tongues about her next blog entry. As the assumed editor and webmaster, it was incumbent upon me to Google the unfamiliar text in her post. In case you were thrown for a loop, she simply used Pinyin (romanized characters for Chinese sounds) to wish everyone a happy, prosperous Year of the Pig, and to say that she loves you. Mousie is a well-traveled, highly social animal, so language learning comes easily to her (it’s actually quite remarkable). She’s promised to teach me languages sometime, saying it ‘just’ takes practice and effort. No wonder I’m unilingual.

Before signing off, Mousie and I want to say a special thanks to all you early fans for taking an interest in the Bear & Mousie project. If I know anything about Mousie, it’s that she has some big plans, and plenty more things to say to you - undoubtedly loving things, no matter what language or form they may take.
